Beat Breakouts

Beat Breakouts

I have struggled with break outs for years, and until the last year or so couldn't find a cleanser and moisturizer that really worked for me. My biggest issue was finding a product that combatted acne while being suitable for extremely sensitive and dry skin.

Long story short, and a TON of experimenting with products later, I have finally found a combination of products that work very well for my skin type and that have *finally* beat the breakouts.

First off, in order to find a suitable cleanser you really need to identify your skin type, i.e. oily, dry, normal, combination, sensitive. What was so hard for me was that almost all acne cleansers and products assume you have oily skin, therefore were really harsh and stripped all the oil from my face leaving it feel so dry it might crack into a thousand pieces. This is not good! Eventually I figured out that I needed to go with the dry/sensitive aspect of my skin type in order to find the right cleanser.

Enter Boscia Purifying Gel Cleanser. I highly doubt I will ever use another cleanser, ever. It's absolutely perfect for sensitive skin. No scent, no dyes, nada.

At about the same time I discovered Boscia, a good friend suggested getting a Clarisonic Mia, insisting it wouldn't aggravate breakouts and that basically, it's amazing. Seriously amazing- I won't travel anywhere with out it. It's kind of like getting your teeth cleaned at the dentist, everyday, but for your face. Love. It.

After washing my face with the Boscia cleanser and the Mia, I apply a light layer of benzoyl peroxide cream on my trouble areas and then follow with CeraVe PM moisturizer- again, no scents or dyes. If I have a monster of a zit, I'll dab a q-tip into the Mario Badescu Drying Lotion and apply it directly on top of it, before bed.

If you've been having issues with breakouts, try these products. I swear you'll see a difference in your skin!

The Great Exfoliate

The Great Exfoliate

So clearly, I have been on a skin care kick as of late. When the weather is -20 below like it is here, I get a little product crazy!

Extremely cold, dry winter air will wreak havoc on your skin, so exfoliating and moisturizing are super important. These products will help ensure you don't get flaky, rough areas, and help your face feel like a baby's booty!

1. Ole Henriksen Power Peel-  I'm a tiny bit obsessed with how my skin feels after using this 3 step-at-home facial product. It's a manual exfoliator and chemical peel, with a calming mask. Love. It.

2. Mario Badescu Rolling Cream Peel- A slightly gentler product for exfoliating. Easy, one step!

3. Boscia Luminizing Black Mask- You know those masks that dry and you peel it off ? This is my favorite one. It feels like you are lifting a layer of dead skin off (gross, sorry!) and leaving your face super fresh.

4. Clarisonic Mia- My Holy Grail product for clear, exfoliated skin. I use mine once daily, at night, to help keep dry skin at bay.

5. St. Ives Apricot Scrub- An old school favorite! Once in a blue moon I'll use this on my face, but I really like it for my feet and elbows. The texture is pretty grainy, so I feel like it's better as a body product, rather than for the face.
